1775mac: Sorry for the delay, but I have been away. Thanks for the photo of the packet of hinges. The shape of the "D" in Dennison tells me these hinges were produced no earlier than the 1970s, which is when Dennison changed the logo from a curly, script type "D" to the slanted "D" shown in your photo.

Thanks, again. I was just curious.

Donald

After hearing about these desirable, discontinued hinges, I ordered a packet. Except this is what I got....

Counterfeit hinges?

Yep the Dead clue. Look at the D. It's not cursive. It/'s a printed D Dennison used A Fancy cursive D. Well they may very well be Genuine Dennison hinges so don't pass judgment until you have tried them. Use a couple old used duplicates and give them a try. Another thing is look at the color of the hinges. If they are green they are Ok if they are brown. They probably are ok but if they are white or clear(no color) they are Cheep'eez and not good. Like I said try them on a couple stamps you don't care about and after a week or even sooner try pulling therm off. Carefully though to be fair..

Sorry I didn't see Lambert's Post.

Actually, I think the thing that gives it away is the "E" in "-sEn", instead of "DennisOn". At least, that's what I've heard over the years, that the DennisEn hinges are knock-offs.

I caught the D right away. Nothing else makes me even think they are not the original Dennison hinges. I have an original package somewhere around here. The package I don't think has ever been opened. I got them when I was 13 years old. about 1958

It was stated in another post that Dennisen hinges (the knock-offs) continue to be sold through Unitrade in Canada. Checkout this story about the various hinge manufacturers and results:

The thing that caught my attention was the 'e'. Dennisen, not Dennison.

I don't know if you can tell from this photo, but the 'Dennisen' do have a greenish tint to them. The Dennisen are on the left, and some Prinz on the right for comparison.
