Here's an entertaining read for which I never heard the story before.

According to this blog, the Poultry Industry Stamp (Scott 968) was considered the least necessary stamp of its day and resulted in action being taken that led up to the creation of the Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee (CSAC) to recommend to the Postmaster General proposals for new US stamp issues.

P.S. By the way, I never really looked at the stamp that close (until now) to realize that the denomination is printed within the outline of an egg!
