Hi, I'm loading up a Scott's Part 1 & 2 "Big Blue" and am finding that I have several variations that have no designated space in the album pages. When I finish the initial "fill", I project there will be a few hundred stamps without a home.
Of course I was aware this would happen, but I expected only a few "leftovers". Yes, I could have printed out the complete pages from the website often talked about here, or bought up the Scotts specialty albums. But I didn't, and chose the "Big Blue" route.
I'm a bit finicky about putting stamps in the margins or other free space on the pages, and adding additional pages would soon not be physically possible (I use a lot of the glassine interleaves).
Sooo, I guess I'm up the creek, but would like to know what others have done in this situation..........
Thanks, Mobilman44

Glassine envelopes, for trade or giveaway. I recently jumped into the WW arena pre 1960 and have many hundreds with no home, I have no desire to hang stamps in margins that my monster Minkus has no space for. |

There is no totally satisfactory solution, so do what seems best. - Stamps in the margins - Stamps on blank pages - Stamps in stockbooks - Stamps in glassine envelopes |

If I'm storing stamps for a short period I'll store them in glassine envelopes by set/year, otherwise I'll put them in stockbooks or vario pages.

I think what you're looking for here is some suggestion as to how to incorporate your extras into the album, not how to store them on stock pages or in glassines. This is a problem for International users, for some reason Scott provides spaces for some difficult stamps while omitting far more easily available items. There seems to be little pattern I can see. I put my extras on blank pages or if there is just the odd one or two I place them in any available margins. |

Hi, Thanks all for the comments and suggestions. I know full well there isn't a magic answer, but I know I'm not the only one with a similar situation. Likely I'll end up with a second (or third) binder and spread out. But until I finish loading the albums, I'll just keep them in glassine envelopes by country. Ha, I'll fight this dragon later............

Start a companion book with pages that should go between that could house them with page numbers like 1a 1b-2a 2c...etc...and pencil in an appendix notation to see that page in the other book. Do you understand? |

I was an avid collector in the late '50s and '60s, and then left the hobby until last year. I jumped into US collecting with the Scotts National albums. I enjoyed being back so much I decided to collect worldwide again as well - but only thru 1950 or so. After checking out available album choices, I figured I would get the best bang for the buck with the Scotts "big blue" Parts 1 & 2. So I picked up 3 of each off of ebay and actually got one of each that is "like new". I'm about 2/3 thru loading up Part 1, and am in the situation I described here. I suspect that sooner or later, I'll expand out the albums and include sheets by country for those neglected stamps not pictured in the original Scotts albums. Question......... I picked up 6 Scotts Big Blues. All of them have a line missing about 1/4 up from the bottom of each stamp pic. I guess they had a printer problem or ??? |

Most countries do not allow an exact image of their stamp in the original size. Therefore Scott "defaces" the stamp with the horizontal line in their albums and older catalogues. These days though, a nice color reproduction is shown in the catalogue, but not the original size. ;-) |

I use Steiner pages, stored in page protectors in three-ring binders. This makes it easy to slip in a Hagner or Vario or other stock sheet between the appropriate pages. For some collections I like to include examples of stamps used on cover. This makes it easy to integrate these into an album. |

So I own the Scott Classic Big Blue Albums also. And I've become quite dismayed that they've laid out their pages and left out spots for many stamps. Has Steiner corrected this in his pages? Or is it that I just have a better chance of amending Steiner's pages? |

Paul C------Steiner pages are a lot better than the Big Blue Albums, and Steiner pages are updated if the catalogs change . Why Scott never corrected all the different problems their albums had over the many years is the reason many collectors moved on to the Steiner pages. Lets hope Scott never buys the Steiner system . |
