I was rooting around tonight and came across this. When I was a young man I worked for a excavating company that would demolish anything on a property to be excavated for something new. At any rate, we were tearing down an old abandoned house when I found this letter hidden in the rafters. This is probably the 2nd of 3rd time the letter has been removed from the envelope, I have never unfolded it. Too bad the stamp is so close to the corner of the envelope. Thought some of you may find it interesting,

That's a nice find! I always like to have covers with the contents still intact. Amongst my favorite covers in my collection (in my main collection at home in the US) are 2 APO covers from the second world war sent from the GIs who used to be billeted in the houe I lived in during the early 80s to my Dutch landlord. One has a lette written shortly after the war from Berlin with photos of the destruction.

I couldn't resist unfolding and reading the letter! I am surprised that you have been able to hold off. The cover is a nice single stamp/proper usage example, and I think it's great that the contents are still inside.

In case you are getting curious of the contents, the National (US) Postal Museum has an article on unfolding letters here: http://www.postalmuseum.si.edu/stam...erving5.html

therealwesty,

Thanks for the link. I gave it a quick look, printed out the four page document, I'll read it later then decide. I have held off all these years because I was afraid of destroying it. But now my curiosity is peaked. If I do unfold it, I will post it.

Old mail is not in my realm of interests but when I found it I took it directly to my truck to protect it. That was 40 years ago. Thanks Again!
