I was scanning some of my Postage Dues and noticed that the very small Kangaroos vary quite a bit from value to value. In the 1/2, the tail appears broken. In the 4, I have a tall-eared Kangaroo. While the 6 seems a little frumpy. Similar differences with the Ostrich/Emu on the other side. Is this typical, or do I have some counterfeits?
"The type is not entirely constant between different values, the differences being in certain details of the designs of the original wood block dies as under:-
½d. Kangaroo (on left): Broken tail. 1d. Kangaroo: Double tail. 2d. Kangaroo: Tail normal, fore paws merged together. 3d. Kangaroo: Fore paws separate, Emu (on right): Completely fills circle. 4d. Kangaroo: Fore paws lightly drawn. Emu: Short and squat. 6d. Kangaroo: One fore paw only, drawn thin; tail does not cross circle. 8d. Kangaroo: No fore paws. 5/-. Kangaroo: Very small fore paws.
In all values, except 8d., the UE of DUE are joined at the top."
