Hi, For my worldwide collection, I use Scotts Big Blues - parts 1, 2,& 3.
I'm at the point now where I'm identifying where the "extra" stamps belong - timeframe wise. By "extra", I mean those stamps that do not have a dedicated or appropriate space in the Scotts album.
My initial thought is that after each country I'll insert a blank page and hinge the extras there. The only problem is, the extras fall into various categories - i.e. regular, airmail, revenue, etc.
Soooo, how should I display them?
Thank you! Mobilman44

Quadrilled pages or blank pages, or if it looks O.K., putting the stamp on the same page as the other stamps in the issue. I just put various category stamps on the same page if necessary for the quadrilled pages or blank pages.
Reality- there is no perfect solution with a "representative" album .
Other reality- more complete solutions (Steiner) have their own set of problems. ;-) |

Mobilman, your question is probably a very common one! And one that has many, many answers. In my case, I have several different collections. My Switzerland used is in a preprinted DAVO album and for varieties I use pages preprinted with "Helvetia", but no other markings, not even a grid on them! I will generally put these pages at the end of the year in which the stamp was issued. My collection of Transportation Coils is a totally different beast! I make my own pages, using "Album Easy". This collection will never be complete due to the enormous amount of varieties, but I can change the pages at will. In other words, if I add another variety to a page I can just change the lay-out and print a new page! Hope this helps?

I think JKBLUE and PETERT4522 ,gave you the best advice on how to handle the problem .As for myself ,I mount the variety on the same page and pencil in a brief explanation ,over time as I get more stamps to overcrowd the page ,then I add a separate page and write up the explanations in more detail and then erase the penciled in wording but add a note at the bottom of the original page to see next page . |

Thank you all for the words of wisdom and experience! I've already got the Scotts black (quadrille) pages and will likely just add those as needed. Of course that will soon fill up the albums, and then I'll have to decide to split them up or ???
No complaints here, it is what it is. I am glad I went with the Scotts Big Blues, as they best fit my wants and needs. If I had only been interested in certain countries, I would have gone with the Scotts country albums. But, I'm interested in the "whole world", and the Big Blue keeps it down to a handful of albums - so far anyway.
Hey, I just realized........... This is my 500th post!
I truly appreciate this forum, and was telling the wife only this morning that I seriously doubt I would have jumped back into the WW arena if not for the folks here. Thank you !

For my Norwegian collection I use a stockbook to display those "extra" stamps that doesn't have a place for them in my hingeless album. It is not very fancy-looking, but I don't like the idea of putting extra pages into my album. I have been thinking about using Vario-pages for it, but haven't gotten around to looking into it just yet.

I use the Scott International quadrilled blank pages. My Scott Intl. Parts I through V; with a few countries beyond into the early 1970s; now covers 12 Intl. blue binders, seven jumbo sized and five regular. |
