Hi!
In trying to identify various Greek stamps I won in an auction, I've come across six of them with three line overprints. The tope line references Italy, the bottom line is "Anno xxx", and the center line is bold print "PAXO".

I found them (w/o overprint) in the Scotts catalog (nos. 39x- )and there is a notation under the grouping. It reads "Cerigo, Paxos, Lefkas - Greek stamps with Italian overprints for the islands of Cerigo, Paxos and Lefkas are fraudulent".

Ok, assuming that is true, should I mount them separately, sell them on ebay for what they are, or throw them away?

Thanks,
Mobilman44

I wouldn't throw them away. Personally I would keep them in a collection of fakes and forgeries or get them to someone who collects these. Having a collection of fakes and forgeries in the areas you collect can be useful.

Mount them (not necessarily separately) with a clear note as to what they are. Then spend time trying to find out who fraudulated them, and when, and where, and how.

Stamp collecting is about going down the byways and learning things; not turning round and going home because someone (who might even be wrong) has put up a sign saying 'Beware Fraudulation!'

Agree with Bamra1 ,mount them and put a note to what they are . The note is in the Scott catalog after #408, They are called local overprints in some reference but I believe and so do other collectors that they are after -the-fact overprints made for the stamp trade .

Hi,
My comment about possibly "throwing them away" was said in jest. This well known pack rat does not throw stuff away............
