Yesterday I received an early birthday present from Gina, which was a Mystery Mix Box of stamps from Mystic Stamp. one of the surprises I found inside was a single stamp in a glassine. Now what made this stamp so special to me is that as I looked at it and turned the envelope over I thought at first there was two stamps but, when I took it out to look at them it is indeed one stamp that has been printed on both sides. I thought maybe it had picked up the image from the back of the press when it was printed but the image is "right" on both sides, meaning it's not reversed on one side. Does anyone know of any sites where I could get more info and possibly a value for such a creature. BTW it is from Korea. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have seen letter printings and partial markings on the backs but never a full picture.

You would think Littleton would have printed the story behind it on the glassine.

What, did they goof up, print the gum side, then decide to run them through again rather than throw them away?

Larry there is no sign of gum on this stamp. So I can't say wethere it's mint or not. There is always that possibility they where made without gum. If nothing more it will fit right into the ODDITIES portion of my collection.

I'm guessing that maybe it's printer's waste or something like that.

Failing that, maybe someone at the printing plant decided to deliberately cover their goof and reprint the sheet on the right side.

It looks to be an older stamp; maybe Scott has something to say about it.

I'm not sure that this is a real stamp.

I cannot find anything like it in Scott and there are none that say simply Korea....only "Corea", "Republic of Korea" and "DPR Korea" (north Korea)

THe stamp is Korea scott design Sok Kul Am, Near Kyongju #A83 could be cat #183 or 186a but there is nothing in the scott cat about printing on both sides. at least not in my 2003 catalog.

Richard....

In my 08 Scott #183 is perf 12 1/2........#186a is perf 10, 11, 11 1/2 x 11 and compound. There is no mention of an imperf or one printed on both sides.

Also, the imperf above has a very muddy appearance.....the Scott catalog photo shows much more detail.

Does anyone have an 09 Scott set ?

My experience with Korean stamps is that in the post-WWII period up until the mid-50s, they were all somewhat crudely printed.

The only time I have ever seen a stamp printed on the gum side, it was an offset situation, and the design was reversed. Never anything like this.
