If you keep on bending and handling stamps like on that bottom pic
then maybe the value of any valuable stamps you do have
will loose some value.

What is that pointed thing you're lifting the stamp with anyway?

Doesn't look like a stamp tong.

Do you have a scott catalog? I have a 2008. From what I can see if that is the common paper and watermark it's a #27, SCV is 50 cents.
Vertically laid paper = $65.00. Hexagon watermark is umm errr uhh, $110,000.00!. Would probably need a certificate for that one. lol

I'm always amazed when some one finds a stamp were there
is a tremendous range in price difference in varieties of a particular
stamp.
Like stampcrow shows below for this one.
50c or $65 or $110K

Right away its got to be the last one. Right. Sure.

I just have to laugh. LOL LOL

But if it is the $110K then I'll just delete this post.

JayT20, I'm no expert either, just a little further along then you perhaps. It's OK. I wish I had come to this site when I was just starting like you. So, since you've taken the time and care enough to post take in what folks say.
What Lithograving said in his first reply is really important. Before you dive into that collection get some proper tools. Take your time.

I shredded the first album that I bought at a garage sale because I didn't know any better. In hindsight, well, I was an idiot.
Take your time. If you don't have the time put the stamps away till you do. The stamp you show in this thread is from the 1870's, it's not going anywhere lol

JayT20, did you ever check those for the watermarks, or direction of the laid paper? Here is one I have in the water. You can see it is horizontally laid paper with the 168 Wmk. Scott 27 Value $1.00, of course I was looking for the Hex. Wmk.. I bought this stamp for .49C just to have an example of laid paper for reference.

It appears that my stamp also has alot of white spots in the oval. Where else can you get 1875 laid paper for .49C ?

I have now checked this same stamp for Watermark with lighter fluid and here is what I get. Nice to have a cheap stamp to experiment with.
