"Not as described" is a standard rationale for returning a purchased item on ebay. What I have seen several times is that buyers do not read the description carefully where - for example - faults must be noted. That hasn't stopped one or two from giving me negative feedback because they bought and were not happy - an action I consider highly unfair (and sellers have now ay to react to bad buyers outside of blocking them from future bidding) |

ebay can be a wonderful place for a beginner to buy stamps. Though once I received a lot that wasn't what I expected it turned I had not read the description properly up I have purchased many great lots over the years. Dianne |

I am not sure I am a beginner - been a collector for 50 years. But I am not necessarily a student or sophisticated. Be that as it may, I have had almost entirely good luck with ebay and BidStart ... I check sellers for feedback - if I like what I see, I buy and all is usually good. Also - between those two and Delacampe and Stamps2Go, it is nice to be able to compare prices. For example, I was looking for three sets of stamps from a single country .. . The prices on ebay were way kind of high, but I found the sets much more reasonable on BidStart. But the other day, it was completely the opposite - BidStart prices too way, but ebay was perfect. I think you just have to look around. |

I am brand new to stamp collecting. I started two weeks ago, tomorrow. The ONLY way I have aquired any material was from ebay. I have won about 9 auctions, including 3 for small to medium lots. All good pics, front and back, most of the time. I'm not investing in stamps as much as I am making a collection. If I was investing I would stick to certified stamps. But the same is true of coins! I have had no issues so far. Everything described fairly, shipped promptly. All my sellers have had high feedback, which I do check before bidding. I've been an Ebayer since 1999, and it seems to me that the sellers that sell Philatelic goods, the ones that I've delt with, are uber professional. ebay is like a city, many many good folks and some real bad ones too, but feedback is king. When I sold anything, I always wanted my customers to be pleased, and I think they always were. FWIW Actually it's time for me to hit the brakes for a couple of weeks and digest what I have acquired. RxMan John BTW I actually look at my mail now, to see if any stamps catch my eye. |

I have had pretty good luck with ebay. I try to be careful and have had a small percentage of items that were not all I hoped. A few months ago I bought about $200 book value of older mint Canada for $7 so there are deals to be had sometimes. |

I have been buying stamps on ebay since 1995 and have always got what I expected. ebay has advanced man times over for the better since. Yes I have over paid greatly for a small number of stamps bt sleep better because my National Album does not have the "hole" or "missing" stamp there. It is easy and convient. I just started selling my duplicates there and am am having some success - they sure get there fees though from many areas and you get the net. |

I always try to be fully honest in all my stamp sales on ebay, proper descriptions, stating ANY faults in the description and the condition area etc. I'd rather be totally open and get a cheaper price than hide stuff and then go through hassles with a buyer that feels they got ripped off. I'm also an avid ebay buyer, so I know what it's like getting duped or not pulling the trigger due to incomplete listings. |

I like bidstart , not bad but as a buyer one can find great deals at ebay. Because ordinary sellers who are not dealers and collectors will land on ebay most of the time...as a buyer I look for those sellers. Buying from delcampe or bidstart I am up against pro sellers only. |

i've only collected for about 3 years, and always thought ebay was way too expensive both in terms of Price and quality. In denmark there are much cheaper sites even auctioncompanies where you could buy Danish stamps cheaper than ebay. and you can returm the items you're not happy with at a lower rate since it's domestic. what ebay do offer is a million other collectors around the World being able to auction of stamps they have completely no clue about. When you're specialized collector you can sometimes find very rare stamps at a very low Price. for that bit ebay is good, but it's seldom and requires alot of time to search since descriptions often are vague or wrong at best. |
