floortrader, I was thinking it would be helpful if jimjamtwo scanned a small range, including those of his examples that he thinks are close to salmon, but the more the merrier. The one thing we can all agree on...everyone likes to look at stamps. Here is a much older Western Australia salmon one-shilling example from Sandafayre's online gallery of rare stamps: A very small image, but large enough to get an idea of the stamp's color. |

Check out Robin Linke's price list for Western Australia. http://www.robinlinke.com.au/pdf/50...ustralia.pdfnot a 1d. Salmon in sight, only Carmine Rose and Rose Pink. It appears for some reason that Scott's call the Rose Pink as Salmon. The Rose Pink is not scarce unless the rare compound perf. The perf. 11 or perf. 12 or 12 1/2 x 12 are not even worth certifying. I finally got time to make a small compilation of non-standard shades. I chose examples which are either lighter or darker than the average. As can be seen, there is a considerable amount of diversity. Several might be 'salmon,' but it's not easy to say yet what this shade is supposed to be. The scan is not entirely representative, however, as these stamps, like all stamps, look different to the naked eye than they do in a scan. (They also look a little different in daylight than in artificial light, but that's another matter.) In particular, yellowish hues apparent in daylight are missing. Some look orange-red in daylight, and one looks distinctly vermilion. But not in this scan! |

Floortrader, I can pick those ones out for you, yes. In the meantime, here's a group that illustrates some of the diversity I've been talking about. |

JIMJAM-----I have to say that Salmon colored stamp that CJD posted falls into the same color spectrum as your last stamp ,right above this posting . |

Isn't that the forum with the obnoxious moderator? Anyway, here's a compilation of very pale shades (some are lighter to the naked eye than they look in the scan). Last, a compilation of more brownish shades. (Whether the brownishness is due to oxidation or not, I am unqualified to say.) |

Jimjm,
yup,
but it is not the moderator who will answer you questions, it will be some Western Australian experts.
As long as you show scans and ask sensible questions he will not get involved with the thread.
The important thing to him is to introduce yourself before asking questions, forget that and all hell will break loose,

Pagoda, my question's already been answered here, so I'm happy enough!
What's more, I was banned from Stampboards for six months, so have no interest in going back there.

I don't think your questions has been answered.
Why do Scott's list a Salmon shade when the specialist handbook & Gibbons lists it as Rose Pink with a low catalogue value.
