Hi All,

I have a lot of stamps.
From most of my stamps, I have also a lot of duplicates.
I'm all day searching for a solution, but I cannot find it.
So, now is the time to ask it here.

How can I, as cheap as possible, store my duplicates apart from my collection.
So that I have a book with single stamps and one book with all my duplicates.

I've searched all over the web, but could not find the answer to it.
So I hope you'll can help me.

Greetings, Rik
PS. I store my stamps and duplicates now in these kind of albums:

Good question .........you will get a lot of different answers .I'll wait a few days for all the different methods and then give you mine. But first you need to answer a few basic questions .......do you buy mixture lots, kiloware type of stamps . Do you buy collections ,are you getting complete sets, or speciality items . All the answers will depend on the type of stuff your buying and what quanity your planning in the future .There is no one fit answer here.

I have too many duplicates to store in stock books. My duplicates go into envelopes that are stored in larger envelopes. The large envelopes are labeled such as "Germany", "Countries I-J", etc. The whole lot is stored in a large plastic bin, suitably arranged for easy browsing. If I want to go through a country to look for early cancellations, for example, it's not too difficult to find the country I want. With some older stamps, I keep the duplicates with the main collection.

Good morning rikdegraff

As Floortrader state there are many answers for your question.

I was lucky enough to obtain 30 stock books at rock bottom prices so many of my duplicates are in those. The rest are in in glassines in order of catalogue no then put into boxes from the dollar store.

I have kind of a "system" like Trainwreck, though I was thinking of using stockbooks. I think if I ever get organized I can get into trading.

Hi,
I have found the "best" (to me of course) way to manage duplicates is the use of glassine envelopes. They run about $6 (US)per 100, and I have bought about 500 over the last few years.

The way I manage duplicates is in two manners. For the USA (my home country), I have the envelopes labeled by Scott number range (i.e. 1-400, 401-500, 501-600) and so one. However, I have isolated valuable stamps separately.

For the rest of the world, I have labeled the envelopes by country and time frame, plus a "miscellaneous" envelope for each letter of our alphabet. This gives me a set for 1840-1939, another for 1940-1949, and so on.

What do I do with duplicates? Well, I tend to buy albums at auction and purge whatever stamps I need. Then, I go thru my duplicates and apply what I can to that purged album. Then, eventually that album goes up for auction again.

ENJOY!

I buy always Kiloware, to soak off.
Then I let it dry en put it in "normal" albums.
Like these:

But I have stamps from over the whole world.
So what type of albums can I use, instead of those that I use now?

Do you have a "preview" album, so that I know what I can buy

Rik - if I may be so bold - one of the greatest challenges in philately is reigning in one's enthusiasm. In other words - you need to control your collection and not have it control you. Every collector is temped to expand his / her collecting scope over the years - and most (I think) don't control it. The result is bins and bins of stuff that you never really even look at. After many years collecting I focus on my specific interests and sell the rest.

I hand my duplicates to my wife, who with great care puts them into stock books and she cheers as they roll out the door!

Always looking for more!

If there is a way of storing stamps I have bought it, with stamps in it or on it!

Okay, thanks all for the replies.
I've got, from Catawiki, a tip about our Dutch site "marktplaats".
That's a kind of ebay, but then only for Dutch sellers.

And selling my duplicates on ebay is a good option.
But how can I make a good auction??
On that aspect, I need someone to help me out.

Greetings, Rik

Well some of countries I collect I have thousands of duplicates (hundreds of some stamps) I do a lot of trading or give aways I haven't sold anything on ebay but have sold here on the forum auction site. I think I have over 30 stock books now with duplicates and lately I have been trading for stamps I don't have.

I'm not sure what amount of total spares you have but by the sounds of thing your best option may be to find someone to trade with.

Dianne
