My National album has the 2 post style and was thinking of punching 3 holes and getting a new binder/slipcase. I really prefer the pages laying flat. So my question is:
Are the 3 hole punches the same type as normal paper or are they centered differently so if I lined them up in a standard 3-hole puncher, would they line up correctly in the new Scott 3-ring binder? I don't mean the distance between the rings, I'm sure those are standard. I mean at the bottom of a 3-hole punch, there's a "shelf" so that you always punch the same spot, keeping everything uniform. Will that work in a 3-ring Scott binder?
thanks

Most three hole punches I have seen have an adjustment so that you can accomplish this.I use Scott's The National Postage Stamp Album 2 post style which has been discontinued for many years and I find the use of Scott's Filler Strips accomplish mostly the same results. Ring binders have always given me problems at some point. The 2 post Scott binders have never. Scott has no plans on ever bring their National Album back according to their product department despite pleads by many. You can only find used albums in the aftermarket which many times cost far more than a new Specialty Series album.

Thanks - I just don't like having to hold the album open when looking through it. I prefer being able to flip one page at a time - hand's free
I'll have to check my hole punch when I get home but don't remember it having any adjustments on it but mine is just a Staples cheapy.
So does that mean because of the non-standard size paper of the National pages, it won't be the standard punch and go and will have to be adjusted?

The pages are approximately 11 1/2" tall, 10" wide. The holes starting from the bottom left -1st hole, approximately 2 1/8" center, middle 2nd hole approximately 5 13/16" center, 3rd top hole approximately 10 1/16 center. |

Thanks a lot, that's a huge help. I'll measure some regular pages and see if they match up

Put a three hole page in your three hole punch. Ease the pins down so that they pass through the holes in the page. Holding everything tight adjust the page locator to the page edge. And Robert's your father's brother.

Got home and checked my hole punch and it's not adjustable - just made for standard 8x11 pages. I'll have to get a different one.
But something else I noticed - The measurements acanalizo posted aren't making sense - the 3 holes aren't evenly spaced apart. By those measurements, there's just shy of 3 3/4 inches between the bottom and middle holes but 4 1/4 between the middle and top holes. Am I reading that right? That would make it pretty difficult to punch your own holes in these pages. Been a long day so maybe I'm just not thinking clearly. Regular pages are evenly spaced at 4 1/4 between the holes.
Do they make hole punches where the individual punches are adjustable?
edit - Just checked Staples website and there are plenty of adjustable punchers. Never even considered a need for different spacing before - learn something new every day
thanks guys! |
