Stamp Insider for March–April 2014

The March–April issue of the Stamp Insider, journal of the Federation of New York Philatelic Societies, is online and available for free download in PDF format or viewing online with page turning. It is available in both PDF and HTML5-friendly format at:

http://www.stampinsider.org

The lead article is "Flyspecking Alive & Well in America." Author Rudy de Mordaigle provides vast insight into differences in seemingly identical modern definitives from different printers and reprints in introducing this aspect of philately.

Other articles include "Memories of a Philatelist" — one collector's perspective on a hobby he has pursued for about 80 years, a timely explanation of why stamps cannot be claimed as Individual Retirement Account (IRA) investments, and a review of a reprinted classic book on wartime airmail routes.

In the featured video — "Stamp Design" — two Illustrators, an art director, and curator Daniel A. Piazza discuss digital and traditional methods of modern stamp design. The video is showing in the William H. Gross Stamp Gallery at the Smithsonian's National Postal Museum.
