I remember back in 2011 or thereabouts, the Canadian Government instigated a new tobacco duty tax stamp. I have seen several of these on ebay of late. I am assuming that these show up on every pack of cigarettes sold in Canada. I have only seen 3 types of this new item with "Canada", "PQ" and "Manitoba" state issued revenue tax stamps. My question is what size are these "stamps"? Here in the US they have little tiny revenue stamps affixed to cigarette packs and back when I knew a lot of smokers I would get my fix of California Ciggy tax stamps. Also, are there more of these, i.e., one for each province? Any Canada Rev collectors out there on Stamp Community Land that might be able to expand on these new stamps? Thanks.

I never had a cigarette in my life, so, they are difficult for me to obtain. However, this is an image of the current ones for 25 cigarettes, as far as I know Chimo Bujutsu |

Back when I was a lad, and my parents smoked (I never did, but I must say, they eventually took my Mom and sister), my Dad presented me with a bunch of cigarette stamps he'd peeled off his duMaurier's. Keep these, they'll be valuable some day. Well, Dad was wrong about that, but what I have left do hold a place of honour in the collection. I've even started picking up tobacco strips at auctions and shows, when I can find them. |

This one will be a challenge. Won this plastic White Owl box at an estate auction. The strip is in pretty good shape, but REALLY glued on. My can of Rosonol lighter fluid and I will have to wait for the nicer weather to tackle it out on the back deck. |

And forgive me for steering this thread far away from your original query, PoStat4evR (and yes, I too would love to get my hands on one of those new stamps), but I'll post just one more. The black number overprint on this 'three leaf' Canadian excise stamp is a date code from a cigarette company, indicating that it, too, once lived on a packet of cigarettes. I'm done. |

I have a collection of those as well jamesw. There is also a listing that gave the location where the tobacco refinery was with reference to the numbers on them.
I have it somewhere, and, if I find it, will post it in here.

At one point in my life several years ago I had a really nice collection of Canad Revenues. One night my newly adopted dog decided she was hungry and ate over 1/2 of the collection. My fault shouldn't have left those yummy stamps out in the first place. Stamps are just stamps, dogs are family, so I put them away so I woulnd't go to prison for doing away with a family member ! Anyway, here are what is left of my tobacco stamps, Canada style. By the by, I bought some of the new tobacco items this link started with on ebay today. WIll post them when I get them. |

Here's an excellent resource on these. This catalogue by Christopher Ryan is available online for personal use, so I have no problems posting it here. Great to bookmark (though I'll admit I've printed it on good paper, along with his work on excise tax on cheques. I still like some things the old fashioned analogue way) http://www.canadarevenuestamps.com/...log2side.pdf |

Thanks jamesw. I am familiar with Christopher Ryan's articles and he is well known in the BNAPS Revenue Study Group.
I believe the man is well versed on Canadian revenues as a whole.

Finally got this puppy off the box. A little worse for wear, but at least now it'll fit in the album. |

Good for you jamesw
That's the problem with this type of stamp, they are quite difficult to remove and the vast majority of them do not survive.

Hi cjd
This code 6 - 10D / 126 was used by J.O. Forest & Company, St. Roch, Quebec from 1939 to at least 1957.

I am glad that this thread came up again because I have come across two more of the current cigarette stamps. These are for 20 and 200 cigarette packages. Chimo Bujutsu |
