For my stamp and cover albums, I like to include a narrative -- brief or otherwise -- of background or history relating to the stamp. I want to create some album pages focused on the blue and red US 7 cent Jet Silhouette stamps. It will include stamps (in all their varieties -- definitive, with plate blocks, panes, coil line pairs) with associated covors.

Other than the (very) brief technical background in Scott's Specialized Category, I can find little information about this series of issues. I know it the series was first issued to meet the increase in airmail postage for letters that became effective on August 1, 1958, but that's about all I can find out. Why was the "Red" variety issued 1n 1960? (I seem to recall reading somewhere that it was because someone thought airmail stamps should be "red" to distinguish them from ordinary postage, but it would be nice to confirm a detail like that.) I have found no souvenir pages for the issues, or ceremony programs. Some sites I often go to for background/historical information for US Airmails come up empty here.

If anybody knows of any resources that might help me on these series of stamps, I would much appreciate hearing about them.

TIA.

Basil
