Hi, I have seen the imperf #65 listed in high end auction catalogues - I happened across one on cover and want to get opinions on it. It is fairly large (does not appear to be trimmed) but I have never seen this listed on cover and Scotts specialty cat. barely refers to it. I have seen the white margin between the stamp and the next 'column' of color on other perforated examples. If helpful I can rescan with a typical perforated to check size but so far I feel it unlikely to have been trimmed; also the cancel seems contemporary.. any opinions? thank you!

hasani....
look more closely.
this stamp is trimmed....
The UR corner of the "stamp"...the LR corner in the
position it is in....clearly perfs are visible.
Sorry.

Interesting cover. I wanted to take a better look at the stamp so I enlarged it. Does the top look like the perforations have been cut-off or is it just an optical illusion?

Oops beaten to it by an expert

I would take a second look before calling
it a trim... scanner extrapolation can
cause straight lines to become 'mountainous'...

Look at the long vertical left edge... same
thing... and the 'mountains' on the top edge
are not even and consistent... longer to the
left than they are to the right...

A straight scan of the stamp with square
postioning on the scanner will show if the
stamp has been trimmed or not...

It's a trimmed straddle pane copy. It's not uncommon to see this. Someone cut the perforations off.

It truly is amazing.....
Everyone comes to this site thinking ....
-- "WOW" I found the only one of its kind.
-- Must be unique....because my dead great-aunt owned it??
-- My neighbor, who collected stamps as a kid, said so.

Look at the pic. On the left is the actual stamp, on the right is me monkeying around for 20 seconds in paint.

This is why even if this stamp was real (It's not) why it can be tough to get certs on stuff like this.

Bill... just a collector, here, no expert...
I'm unaware of 'big straddle copies' but
would most definitely like to be enlightened...

(However)... I'm in the computer field, and, in some areas
I have a great deal of expertise, and have scanned thousands
of documents and images over the years, and extrapolation has
always been a phenomena which occurs vis a vis positioning a
document (or image) squarely upon the scanning surface, and/or
in combination with image positioning tools...

Bill... point proven... good job... thank you...

You've made a very good case, indeed... and,
most certainly in the realm of a very strong
possibility...

However, in this case, although I'm definitely
leaning towards your possibility that the top
of the cover stamp (could be) showing trimmed
perfs, I'm still of the opinion the cover copy
is scanner error and (not) displaying trimmed perfs...

Confessedly, though, given your demonstration,
I am somewhat inclined to believe (now) that a
certificating entity would more likely be in your camp...

disi123.....the only thing that makes billw2 stamp different
is that it is from position 10 of the left sheet.....
you can see the pane divider line....a small premium over the normal
straddle pane stamps.

The thing I find remarkable about
the straddle copies is that it seems
the way the sheets are cut, there
really aren't any right side perforations...

Is this correct?
