Hi guys...Just thought I would share the different shades associated with the beautiful 1898 XMAS stamp..Especially the bottom right stamp...PINK....Some one could say it is bleached..But look close..All other stamps RED is always past the lines of the country it is printed on, but the PINK is accurately printed within the borders of the countries..?

Any other shades out there..??
Robert

Here is the backs of the stamps and no red or colour imprint on the back of the pink stamp.

A very timely post. I think what you are seeing is that the carmine was completely washed out, leaving only the underlying red? A very interesting variety, nonetheless.

I was lucky enough to receive some stamps from Mudhut1000 ... thank you very much. He sent me some excellent copies of the Lavender and Blue (Scott 85 and 86), with the Blue being a Mint, VLHM. I am extremely happy!

They are taking the place of the previous two examples: A beat-up, very light grey, 85i, and a used Blue, 86.

The only reason I'm keeping the 85i is because it has an extra island North of Australia/New Zealand that doesn't appear on my other examples.

I'd argue that is a consequence of soaking. Red picked up from the underlying paper perhaps.

Is theere a scan of the back please?
It could be bleeding from soaking or something.
Looks like an interesting variety though, just to have annd hold for look's sake. probably not catalogued.

Puzzler...If his stamp is caused by bleeding, then why did it bleed on the land only and not the water portion..??

I'll rescan my stamp, front and back, a little later (at work right now ... shh!). I re-soaked to remove some of the fugitive paper on the back. My first guess, though, is general bleeding from the ink colors, not from any backing paper.

I never knew the term "XMAS" existed over 100 years ago. I always thought it was a recent phenomena, say the last thirty years or so.

There was a discussion on Xmas on this exact stamp a while ago

https://goscf.com/t/11100

I rescanned the front and back after a little soaking. I don't see anything of interest.
