Trying to figure out how to place a catalog (Not real world) value on covers.

Example;

I don't believe the back adds any value, or does it ?

My Unitrade 2014 shows;

Pair of 129's on commercial cover @ $40.
Single 129 on Commercial cover @ $7
2 127's on cover @ $7 X 2 - $14.00

So it adds up to a catalog value of $61.00 if I did it correctly ?

I see no re-entries, how do you determine if it's a paste up pair ? Wet or Dry printing ?

Thanks

Why are you trying to put (an impossible) catalogue value on a cover? Covers have market value only IMHO - as they are ALL unique. They are worth what someone is prepared to pay for them.

I do understand that it could have a value between .99˘ and $100 depending on the connection a potential buyer might have with the cover. This is why I'm not looking for a real world price as stated above, I do understand the cover market.....somewhat. I just want to know if according to Unitrade I've valued it correctly based on their catalog, if that makes sense.

Way to difficult to do - and know. As you pointed out there are stamp features that can't be determined. For a postal history collector the cancellations, actual postage on the cover and routing are extremely important. As one example, the back cancels could be the most impt. part of this cover.

Scott and Michel lists values of US and German stamps on cover, respectively. Something as simple as that would be useful for Canadian stamps.

Unitrade does show values for stamps on cover. My 2014 lists a value for the stamps above on a commercial (Non-philatelic) cover which this one is.

The value of a postal historic cover is way beyond the value of the stamps on that cover. Valuation is meaningless.

I do understand CS, to create space in my Stamp world I'm considering moving into only Stamps in the few main areas I collect. This would mean putting up for sale thousands of covers except for a few high end US covers I won't part with. The Vast majority are of minimal value as they were standard rate commercial covers with stamps produced in the Millions. That being said I do have quite a few that would generate interest and I might be able to sell enough to fund my final US Airmail missing piece.

Kidding aside probably the best way to get an idea would be to look at old auction catalogs, especially those featuring postal history. This is a resource we have available at the library as well (norps.org).
