The Royal Family visited the Maritime Provinces and Newfoundland after their trip to the United States and the New York World's Fair. |

Wert: Here is the card contained in the "pouch". It is a hand made card with silk band holding the stamps in place. And here is the 275mm x 290mm large book. Jeff Switt describes this one in detail in the April 1994 BNA Topics. Other presentation books were prepared exclusively for presentation to the King and Queen. |

hutin: It appears that your booklet is the one presented to delegates to the 11th Universal Postal Union Congress held in Buenos Aires in 1939. This booklet had a red leather cover, embossed with the Coat of Arms in gold and CANADA. It contained 3 pages and did include the Royal Visit set. |

Wow. I didn't expect such a great response in such a short period of time.
Thanks all for your input.
Periodically, I come across material pertaining to this visit. One I get new items for my collection, I will post them in here.

hutin: the actual date of issue was May 15. You even show a newspaper clipping from April 15 where the date was May 15. I think that the presentation folder was wrong.
The King and Queen were originally scheduled to land in Québec City on May 15 with the Royal Tour beginning on May 17. But, because of the late arrival on May 17, the tour commenced immediately with no rest day for the couple. If I remember correctly a rest day was added later in the visit sometime when the couple was in the Prairie Provinces. It's been a long time since I've read the literature dealing with this visit.

Glenn your pages about the Royal Visit are fascinating! There sure were a lot of different cachets and postmarks. |

Glenn: hutin's presentation booklet is absolutely correct. The Royal Visit set was showcased on the first page. We know the stamp was issued on May 15th and the booklet supposedly on February 28th. I'll not try to explain the discrepancy in dates. In his BNA Topics article on the booklet, Barraclough lists the three stamps as being present and the issue date of February 28th. |

My understanding is that the royal couple was delayed by a couple of days due to bad weather on the high seas.
What I find interesting about the RV is trying to get covers with itinerary cancels from areas they visited on the actual day. Some of the towns they visited, they stayed as little as 15 minutes!
