Hi Wert
I believe that you have a cut-square from Swedish postal stationery, most likely a postal card.

Would members appraise this article please? (Perf 14) Amongst a cheap world assortment, I cannot believe someone would miss this, hence assume a forgery? 1874 issue Any idea on the Postmark? That looks dodgy too. Thanks |

Stamp looks genuine to my eyes.
I agree the cancel looks strange. It is not sharp (letter sizes seem to vary, but may be due to ink spread). At first I was thinking Enköping, but on the cancels I've seen I would expect the "O" in the city name to be at a slight angle relative to "11". That would be expected since the "O" is not the exact middle letter. On your stamp, the "O" appears almost perfectly vertical above the "11". If the stamp is genuine, I would find it hard to believe that someone would forge the cancel on an unused stamp because of the significant catalog value difference. |

There are many small towns in Sweden with names ending with "köping"; so, the postmaek is very probable, and the stamp itself (Scott 21, value $87.50) looks genuine to me, and in good condition. Being a bit off center is normal for this issue. |

That would be expected since the "O" is not the exact middle letter. Hi Kim, to illustrate, and support your argument, here is an example....... From my collection. Proving, my town cancel had 9 letters. There is no "koping" that satisfies the Pmk shown, yet the "N" looks too thin Köping (cognate to the English toponymical name chipping) was a Swedish denomination for a market town. This term was abolished with the municipal reform of 1971, when Sweden was subdivided into the Municipalities of Sweden (currently amounting to 290). Also, I do not have any instance, in my collection, of a serrifed Postmark in the style of my cancel, with a solid outer ring, they all have interrupted lines/dots and spaces. |

Rod, actually the Enköping cancel does exist in the cancel style with serif fonts on your stamp (full outer circle except for the 2 dots above the "O"). I assume the 2 dots above the O is the diaeresis. My problem was that I remembered the O was not centered above the numbers. But I could be wrong. Memory isn't what it used to be. |

Rod, here is an example of Enköping cancel with serif font and full outer circle (except for what I assume is the diaeresis). |

That Enkoping with the broken ring is something...a neat design touch. I wonder if I have one? |
