Don't think anyone answered your question, wert. The stamp (QU3 in van Dam's) was issued from 1934-39. His value in the catalogue $1.25 used. |

A quick look in my book, and I see I've got the complete set, which isn't difficult.  My cancels aren't nice and clear like yours. But I do make out ZV on the 5¢ (or it might be 7V) and V7 on the 15¢. It would be pretty interesting to find out what the codes mean. |

An ancient BNA Topics said that the 15c roulette is the key stamp of this entire issue, for what its worth. If someone has one, it might be worth looking into it. |

Then these stamps paid a tax on alcohol to fund the unemployment insurance? Would the cancellation codes have some relation to the volume of booze? |

Not sure if it is a designation like say whiskey is a "7" and rum is a "Y"...Maybe they kept tab to reimburse the alcohol companies for affixing the stickers..?? I used to buy antiques years ago, furniture, bottles, etc...NEVER saw a liquor bottle with a sticker on it..NEVER. Just a wild guess..  Robert |

I am not an expert, but, I don't think that the markings shown in this thread have anything to do with booze (alcohol) in any nature but may be a code used by those in the government employment offices when applied to unemployment booklets or other official uses?? Just a guess really.
