The souvenir sheet for this July 03, 2015 issue may contain a non-constant error. On the day of issue, I will buy 8 of the 9 souvenir sheets held by a post office I visited today. These 8 all have a dot in the same spot on the sheet, but not on any of the stamps. It is yellowish in colour and some have a greenish centre (making it a donut). Here's an exaggerated example using a scan from the current Details magazine.

Hey BlackJag...are you referring to the donut shaped ink in the water..??...Could it have been something in the water..??? Robert But then again, there are not constant colours... |

Wert - Yes, and they appear to have been caused by a piece of paper torn from the Waterton-Glacier stamp (the left side stamp on the bottom row of the full-sized souvenir sheet). It's in the brown background, white inscription area just above the C of CANADA.
In the same souvenir sheet, there's three small dots: a yellowish-white dot in the top margin above l'UNESCO, a white dot above International in the Waterton-Glacier stamp and a small white dot in the B of Buffalo in the Wood Buffalo National Park stamp (top row, middle stamp).
None of the other souvenir sheets have any of the three small dots. |

As of yesterday, all post offices have been emailed to stop selling and return all souvenir sheets and booklets containing the incorrect image for the $1.20 Dinosaur National Park stamp.
Obviously, both the $7.20 six stamp booklet will be reprinted, and possibly the souvenir sheet as well.
So glad I have so many "donut" souvenir sheets which will now have a higher resale value. The two booklets I have are needed for my collection.
It will be interesting to see if our standing orders are filled with the incorrect image stamp souvenir sheets and booklets. |

None of my (4) s/s have the BlackJagian blue dot. Also got some booklets. Nice lady at the post office. She did not know about any recall, but was keeping them under counter until the old UNESCO stuff sold. (The Dinosaur National Park post card is also gone from Canada Post site.) CBC News quotes CP as pulling stamp: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calga...rk-1.3142105 |

Visited one Post Office in a Shopper's Drugmart and the lady said the stamps were being recalled because of difficulties and she couldn't sell any if they had them. She was almost certain that they had been returned. Went to another Shopper's and the lady there had reams of them, knew nothing about the recall, and very kindly sold me all that I wanted.
So, they are still available if you're willing to look a bit. Happy hunting. |

Just checked the print quantities of the withdrawn booklet (160k; i.e. 320k stamps of each design) & souvenir sheet (140k, no recurring stamps in the sheet). These are relatively low. Let's assume 5% were sold (probably a bit high). So we're potentially dealing with 16k booklet stamps (or 8k booklets) and 7k souvenir sheets. This is relatively high imho, so I doubt these will ever sell for more than 2-3x FV. But that's just my opinion, of course. |

Well I checked six Canada Post outlets today and they all knew about the recall and either had already returned the stamps or could not sell them to me. So I am out of luck. The real value in these will be the used stamps on cover with correct usage for postage to the USA during the 4 days when the stamps were "in period". |

I would also offer the opinion that used ones, early cancelled (July 3 to July 8th), may be much more elusive than new ones. |

Quote: I would also offer the opinion that used ones, early cancelled (July 3 to July 8th), may be much more elusive than new ones. Yes true but a lot of mail isn't cancelled anymore which should make them even more rare. I can also add to the list that 4 CP outlets (Main PO and 3 Shoppers) in my area mentioned the recall and had none to sell. I can't understand why Canada Post is doing this. Just sell the existing (error?) booklets/SS and print new ones with the correct pic. Just like with the inverted lighthouse pic. Oh wait a minute. Maybe they want to create some interest in Canadian stamps again ? Another thing. Didn't the photographer and the stamp designer know what photo was going on the stamp? Like what are they paying these people for? |
