Any help with the Perfin would be great. Is it a pre-cancel ?

I believe it is Brown and Sharpe manufacturing Co. which manufactured machine tools and screw machines. The large "L" is actually a machinists square with the "BS" as part of their logo.

The perfin catalog lists this as Brown & Sharpe of Providence, RI. The "L" is a carpenters square.

Don't feel bad, I've made similar mistakes a few times on this site as well. The solution is to mark the stamp or cover with the information and I'll admit I don't always do that either (even though I should).

The perfin is still quite interesting and clever with the company using a "machinist's square" as part of the perfin design.
