I see this stamp listed as a 1957, 1960, 1965, and 1971. But I can not find them in my Scotts Book, I can not even find any 3.00 or 5.00 stamps, in the French listing. Any help would be great. Thank you

Hi Mohawk These were new values issued January 1960. I don't have Scott with me for catalog numbers, unfortunately. I'm sure someone will come up with this in a while. Hope this helps. |

What does it mean when you say new values issued, was the stamp also issued before 1960 with different denominations> |

The 5 franc was originally issued in 1957 as 500 franc, and the 3 franc originally issued in 1959 as 300 franc. I think there must have been currency devaluation in 1960 (i.e., they just divided everything by 100!). |

The set of 3 shown above by Carlberky were the original issued in 1957. Later they reissued them in 1960 but there are 5 in the set: 2f Nord 2501 Noratlas 2f Dassault Breguet Mystere Falcon 20 3f Morane Saulnier MS-760 Paris 1 5f Sud Aviation SE-210 Caravelle 10f Sud Aviation SE-3130 Aloutte II Helicopter Both of the 2f stamps were new to the set coming from an earlier set issued in 1954. I will scan the 100f which is the only one of the original 1954 set I have. Included will be the 2f Dassault Mystere Falcon 20 and a 1f red overprint which I can't place at the present moment. Hope this is a help. Allen

The CFA overprint is for Renunion. The 1960 3f issue is an interesting one for varieties. They can be found in just blue or green and lots of combinations in between which aren't listed in Scott. |

When I visited in 1964, the old coins were still in circulation; everyone knew to lop-off the zeroes. Cheers, /s/ ikeyPikey |

Thanks Anthony. This is very interesting. I just collect stamps featuring aircraft but it widens the field considerably when one extends this to varieties including perforations, paper types, etc, etc. Looking at the two Reunion overprints I have, one is definitely darker than the other, though not a different colour. My Stanley Gibbons catalogue does not give any information on this stamp at all, in fact Reunion is not even mentioned. I presume the RF mentioned on this stamps is Reunion also. This one specifically states Reunion. Hope I'm not diverting from the topic here. |

I stand corrected. Stanley Gibbons does mention Reunion. Apologies. Just hadn't looked hard enough! And at the time didn't know that the previously mentioned overprint was from Reunion. These are the two Reunion overprints I have. |
