Stamp Insider for March-April 2016

The March-April 2016 issue of the Stamp Insider, journal of the Federation of New York Philatelic Societies, is online and available for free download in PDF format or viewing online with page turning. It is available in both PDF and HTML5-friendly format at:

http://www.stampinsider.org

The issue features several articles on first day covers and cachetmakers.

The cover story is "Covers, Cachets, Combos & Cancels" by Ed Bailey of Syracuse, who explores the 25-year odyssey of cachetmaker Ron Traino.

Overseas Mailers Ltd. cachets embellishments are the subject of a heavily illustrated article bySteve Swain. In "Tom Mix and the 1-1 Ranch," Robert D. Barron traces the roots of the cowboy silent movie star who was honored three others on the Cowboys of the Silver Screen issue of 2010.

Diane DeBlois' Ephemera column focuses on one aspect of Robert Dalton Harris' and her exploration of 1830s postal routes in New York State.

The featured video is a 1925 clip of Mix in the silent cinematic adaptation of Zane Gray's "Riders of the Purple Sage." There is also a link to a streaming version of the full movie.
