Seems like that would be one more way of moving in on the tough ones. I am currently stumped on two stamps that I believe are Eastern European. One has the face value of 50 Gt. on it and the other has 4 AB (the A could be an upside down V), and I'm sure I'll have others that may be tamed with this info. Would love to find a site that would tell me what currency is and has been used in various countries over their stamp history. Thanks, Jim

I am a little confused by the words "stamp currency". Are you talking about stamps that show coins or banknotes on it?

Peter, I think Jim is asking for a dictionary for abbreviations and symbols used on stamps marking their value. For instance, 'Rs' means reis and 'd' means penny. |

One issue is to be able to type other in languages like Cyrillic. In the next few days I am finishing up on a new, large 'World Stamp Identifier' tool. While adding support for the web pages and database to display other languages was not especially challenging adding in the capability for a 'pop up' foreign keyboards was a bit more work, right now it currently has support for 15 or so foreign keyboards. There is also a fair amount of 'currency' entries in the database. (I'm guessing there is about 100 out of the current 3000 stamps.) I will look into adding more currency records as time allows. Don

Look forward to that Don. You really need the older currencies for the various countries since it the early stamps that don't always have the Latin lettering. |

This is an example of a country name and currency abbreviation that is very difficult to discover. No match was found with google image search either. Any ideas what this might be? |

Another approach, scan your stamp. Go to Google, top right corner click image search the stamp by image, to reveal country.
