Does anyone use a rotary cutter and silicon mat for cutting mounts? Will or does it work?

I went to Wal-Mart / Target to the arts and crafts section and bought a Fiskar rotary cutter board. Works GREAT! |

The fiscal that I use is hard plastic with a blade that slides, the base is about 8 x 10 with changable blades

I use this. Works just great and looks cool hanging on the wall too. Not sure how easy it will be to find another though. |

I knew what you meant Leejb1 LOL. Is it the same what scrapbookers would crop pics with? I have one of those but not a rotary blade and don't want to start damaging mounts. JamesW, that is sweet. |

I have used a Fiskar for 5 years, so much so, the graduations have worn off, fabulous piece of kit.
Where can I get replaceable blades please ? any links? Thanks

Rod, They have them on the American Amazon, but apparently not on the Australian one. Not sure how that would work for shipping, but you might look into it. |

Are66, All of the cutters I have seen had been expensive and a unitasker. Not sure about the Lighthouse brand...but I already ordered the Fiskers Rotary cutter and silicone mat. Rod222: They have replacement blades on Amazon. Again, thank you all! |

Hello Postmaster :) Thanks for the tip, I couldn't find them (Item 9675P) However serendipity stepped in, in my searches, found them in Oz http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/...-pack-fi5740Lets hope they are in stock. New Fiskars "sure cut" = $58 AUD replacement blades 2 = $14 This has the hint of the "throwaway society: where the spares are nearly as expensive as the original item (eg computer printers) I have a very serviceable 2002 Daewoo Nubira car, the heater core has just gone so now "unroadworthy" to have the item repaired is worth twice the value of the vehicle hence it now has to just be scrapped. Rather sad that. Update: It doesn't rain, it pours "Not available online" I have to drive 500km if I want to pick them up. |

"Why not use a Lighthouse cutter"
Product familiarity mainly, I have used Fiskars sure-cut for years, never had a failure (touch wood) cuts straight as a die, (especially as I use "used mounts" as well) Cuts with the stamp inside the mount, (I only use "open top" mounts) Current blade has lasted > 5 years?

When I picked up the Fiskar unit I also picked up a couple of extra blades at Joann Fabric Store

Good idea Lee, I had no idea when I purchased, I would have it so long as to dull the blade.
I am picking mine up tomorrow. Hope it has instructions as to change blades.

All Fixed. New Blades purchased (AUD $14 for a brace)
So Now $56 Fiskars is just like new.
Replacing Blade, just slide the old blade to the right, where there is a removal groove, slide out old and replace new blade. Simple.
