Hello all, just joined this illustrious forum. I'm from the Netherlands, currently snowbirding in Spain. I restarted my hobby of stampcollecting recently and among the newly purchased stamps I found this one

Can anyone tell me from what country this is? Thanks very much, regards Hans

The language on the stamp does not seem to be Bulgarian, Jenny, I have tried translator and currency apps and found no hits. Could you be more specific on how you reached your conclusion? Thanks Jenny, appreciate it, Hans.

The language is Bulgarian. Your stamp is the lowest value (1 st) of a set of 6 + minisheet issued by the People's Republic of Bulgaria in 1974, celebrating the 1974 World Cup Football Championship. In the SG catalogue it is SG2313.

Hi Hans, en goedenmiddag! Jenny is correct ( as always ) and this stamp is part of a Bulgarian set issued on the 25th of May, 1974 commemorating the world soccer championships held in West Germany at that time. They are listed in http://stampworld.com , just in case you did not bring your SG catalog!

"HP #1041;#1098;#1083;#1075;#1072;#1088;#1080;#1103;" would indicate Bulgaria, yes.
[EDIT: unfortunately, I cannot get the cyrillic to show up properly on this board, but it's the characters that look like "HP bbn..."]

"#1087;#1086;#1097;#1072;", no, as it means "mail/post" and appears on stamps from other countries as well.
[EDIT: and this would be the characters that look like "nowa"]

"N(arodna) R(epublika) Bulgaria" / "Pošta" = People's Republic of Bulgaria / Post. This was the name of the country and the designation of its postal service found in Latin script on certain values issued by Bulgaria after WWII while the rest of the sets carried the same inscriptions in Cyrillic.

What looks like "nowa" reads "poshta" in fact as that "w" represents the digraph "št" pronounced "sht".
