Canada Post To Issue Star Trek Stamps

I think Blackjag is referring to the set of 8 FDCs that are selling for $22.00. You could buy each of the FDCs separately and the total will come to $22.00 anyways. But I imagine Star Trek fans will want a complete set of FDCs, so they will buy it as a set. And the set of FDCs come in a nice cardboard folder.

Canada Post still have them on their website but I expect they will sell out soon.

I also expect the autographed Shatner framed print to be sold out soon. 1100 units are not a whole lot and I know some people are buying more than one. If people buy 2 of the framed prints, it will only take 550 people to buy them all.

Yes, I did mean the post cards and mistakenly mentioned the $22.00 for the OFDCs.

Here's my custom FDC with the 5 booklet stamps, the two souvenir sheet stamps and the two coil stamps. When I printed the space image from the Hubble telescope, I didn't know how big the stamps would be, not leaving enough room for the stamps.

After many failed attempts to bring up the optimizer, I had to severely reduce the image size to add it here.

Very nice cover Blackjag! I plan on creating something similar for Sept 8 2016, the actual date Star Trek premiered on TV.

I am not normally a specialist collector in modern issues. I usually content myself with the year-end souvenir package and a few special interest items that may crop up from time to time. Since I am a BIG original series Star Trek fan, I had to go to the post office and take a good look at some of this great issue.

I have to say that Canada Post has done a truly outstanding job with this series. The various items honor the show nicely and do a good job of highlighting Canadian involvement (even the Klingon actor). Although the stamp series uses the usual tricky practices of providing multiple formats to get collectors to purchase multiple copies of everything, I would have to say that they have done a nice job with all the major pieces to the set. I purchased the Prestige Booklet and the FD cover set, plus the little mailbox coil dispenser. Most of the other miniature sheets and stamps should come in my next Souvenir Collection for 2016. After reading the various texts in these items, I was impressed at how accurate and informative it all was for a general audience. The lenticular stamps were also nice, especially the one that shows Kirk/Spock/McCoy beaming to the Guardian of Forever (even though this never appeared that way in the episode). So a big thumbs up to Canada Post from me!

I like BeeSee's idea of doing a custom cover for the show's premiere date. It would be interesting to know what that was in Canada since it is likely not the same as the US premiere date.

Scottamer, I am not really a Trekkie, but found out that the Canadian premiere for the original series was two days earlier, on September 6, 1966. I have no idea why that was.

Scottamer Peter, thanks for that date on the initial broadcast in Canada. I never noticed that and confirm it after re-reading the Wikipedia article.

In the deluxe booklet, there is an error in the date on page two. It says the series aired from Sept 8, 1966 – Sept 6, 1969, when in fact the last episode was June 3, 1969. These are U.S. airing dates of course.

You think Canada Post would have included the Canadian first date anyway. I think I will use Sept 6, 1969 on my covers.

BeeSee. I got the Canadian airdate from Wikipedia. It says September 6, but gave no year date! I just figures it was 1966, but may be wrong. ( That has happened before! ).

I received an Postage Paid Dr. McCoy card from Postes Canada today inviting me to see the stamps at NY 2016. I wonder how many of these cards were printed and how many were used on their mailing list.

Glenn, they need to learn how to spell your name! The stamp on that card - is it printed on? It does not look like a stamp from where I am.

I just received my latest copy of DETAILS featuring the Star Trek stamps. I decided to build an imaginary order of 1 each of the items offered for sale and realized just how badly Canada Post is going to tap the collector.

Total price .....$427.24 + tax = $482.78

I am glad I don't collect this stuff!

Just received my copy of DETAILS too and notice that there is also a pane of 5 stamps.

For those who have the FDCs, can you tell whether the stamps are from the booklet (i.e. sim perfs) or the pane/SS's (real perfs)?
