Canada Post To Issue Star Trek Stamps

I'm not an expert with souvenir sheets at all... in your opinion, are these sheets worth more "in the booklet" versus out? Will this change over time?

I'm not an expert also. For me it all depends if my 2016 Lighthouse supplement will make a place for them as individual sheetlets. For the meanwhile I keep my booklet intact.

Did anyone see William Shatner's comment about the upcoming Star Trek stamp featuring himself ... he even admits he collected stamps as a kid, but never imagined he'd be "collecting himself"!

I received my first postally used Star Trek stamp, Captain Kirk, with a cancellation date of May 6, 2015, the day after it was issued.

I got the following mailed to me which looks like animated stamps:

That is sure nice to get a used sheet Jogil. I wonder if the glue makes it soakable like other Canadian self-adhesives. If so, the cancel will probably wash off. Best to keep it on the cover or piece.

I tried soaking a $5 cloth flag - it did come off the paper nicely, but the cancel disappeared.

Star Trek Press Sheet - of What?

Now that I have finally had a chance to examine the press sheet with the booklet pane stamps, I now wonder what the panes from this sheet were actually used for - if anything.

Below is a scan of the press sheet. At first glance it looks like the same panes that were used in the deluxe booklet. However, this is not the case.



Here is a pane from an exploded booklet. notice how the design continues into the tab at the left past the roulette marks and thread holes.





Above is a close-up of the pane in the press sheet. The design stops at where the roulette marks would be, and the design of the background continues on, which is different for all nine panes. There is no way that this press sheet could have been used for the deluxe booklets.

It would appear that this press sheet was printed soley for the sale to collectors. Though it makes me wonder why the press sheet sold to collectors did not contist of the actual souvenir sheet issued (below):

Thanks BeeSee now I have to go spend another $20 to get a mint book so I can take one apart to display the panes. Do the booklets come apart fairly easy though.

Northerner, yes the books come apart fairly easily. Just be careful not to separate the pane from the tab at the rouletted area on the left.

I purchased two press sheets (since they were sold at face value). I will cut the panes apart slightly over-sized to show the are from the press sheet.

That is not an official souvenir sheet. It is called "a pane of 5 stamps", as seen in this picture of the retail version and in the catalogue.

My question is, do the stamp pane as seen above and the prestige booklet you order directly from the post office come enclosed in plastic with description as seen in these pictures.



Or plain with no plastic?

In other words, is there a retail version for display in stores and a plain one for collectors?

Also, do you think there is a premium for the retail version vs the regular ones.

The complete set of FDCs come enclose in cardboard with descriptions. If you buy them single you don't get this packaging. The set has sold out at the post office and most outlets. Virtually impossible to find in stores. It is selling for more than double issue on ebay.

As far as I know the prestige booklet only comes in the plastic wraper.

BeeSee is right. "Press sheets" are not really press sheets, but distinct philatelic items. They are not (always?) used as the source of the illustrated souvenir sheets. Proof of this lies in the Titanic press sheet, which contained errors that never occur in the issued souvenir sheets.

PS: There are now 55 press sheets. Would someone kindly write to my wife explaining why I must collect these!
