I'm new in collecting, but I don't like sheets I like singles.

I also often prefer singles ... but sometimes, there is beauty in multiples. Collect what you want but keep an open mind.

Ok, fair enough. I was asking mainly because my inherited Austrian collection is full of such sheets And couldn't understand the reason.

First of all what you have shown are not sheets
but blocks of 6 or 10

For some collectors like myself who are concerned with the
printing of stamps, sheets and blocks are important
since they can show information in the selvedge.

Many engraved stamp sheets including USA, Canadian & Austrian show the plate number
and might even give a clue as to what printing press was used.

Most French IMPRIMERIE DES TIMBRES-POSTE - PARIS stamps whether for France or Monaco or French colonies etc
have the production date in the margins/selvage/border.
This is very useful if one is into stamp production
and not just what is this this stamp worth?

Stamps printed via photogravure might show the date
when printed in the selvedge.

So as you can see there can be a lot of information
when collecting sheets or blocks or just singles with
selvedge.

Blocks can also provide context, other than the selvedge, that might not be available in a single stamp. For example, an error in a single sheet position can be highlighted and confirmed by the normal stamps included in a block surrounding the error stamp. A block can also insure that at least one stamp in the block has good margins.

From a purely aesthetic viewpoint, seeing multiple copies is sometimes more impressive than the single, but that's a matter of taste.
