These stamps are part of a fairly large auction acquisition I recently made. The photo is of what I believe to be Sardinia 12 and 13. The head in Sardinia 12 seems to be misplaced when compared to 13. I could find no mention of "misplaced" heads in my research, only inverted or double prints. Perhaps this is a really bad forgery. Any comments would be appreciated. Thank you!

ksriley54, is there any way you can make high resolution scans? The pictures are very blurry and it is hard to tell anything.

Peter

Scott states that the 5˘,20˘ & 40˘ have been reprinted. The embossing of the reprints is not as sharp as the originals and the colors are dull & blurred.

This will probably not be much better. It is more difficult to see the embossing on #12. The head appears shifted to the left when compared with #13, which appears centered.

Thank you.

Thank you both, very much. That explains it pretty clearly. I'll be studying up a little more on reprints now. This is my first encounter but probably not my last. Thanks again. Great photo example!

When looking at the old classics think of forgeries, fakes, reprints & facsimiles. If it seems to good to be true it probably is. Save your money on certification and buy lottery tickets. Do research and ask on forums such as this one first.
