Why an album page need a border? A book page don't have borders, Was nice in the time they publish the first brown album but in 2016, why do pages like Steiner's, Lighthouse and others need borders ?

Going a step further, why are borders for the stamps needed.... Just provide a description of each stamp and not mess with trying to size a space for the stamp ... if mounts are used, they become he border for the stamp. Or maybe just use stock cards. Just thinking outside the box (pun intended) |

I think the whole concept is very personal. Years ago something went wrong with my AlbumEasy program and it started printing my pages without the border. I collect Transportation Coils and some of the longer strips look pretty good on a page without borders. But other times I feel the need for a border; just looks better to me.

Getting rid of the borders on Steiner pages can also save you a lot of printer ink. |

There's no reason why anyone has to use a border on their album pages anymore than they have to use 'boxes' to mark the location of each stamp.
Some blank albums have no real borders (quadrille pages, for example) and some collectors just mount their stamps wherever it looks good on the page without bothering to draw borders for either the page or for each stamp. If you use black mounts they become the 'box' around your stamps.
I think borders appeal to many collectors because of their aesthetic appeal. They finish off the page like a frame around a picture. But if some people like frameless pictures, there is nothing wrong with that. |

SG's Imperial Album are very beautiful. Going 'borderless' brings more focus to the stamps. Less is more. If you're using black mounts, a border does provide some aesthetic value, at least in my opinion. To each his own :-) Note that it is possible to design your own 'borderless' album pages with PostmasterGS' Scribus album page generator: http://www.germanstamps.net/pmgssapg_scribus/ |

I go a step further beyond just a border; I build a huge wall on every page. None of my stamps are going to be able to cross my page borders! Don |

And you require stamp dealers to pay for constructing the walls ...

The more I look at the Stanley Gibbons pages without page borders and without stamp borders (since the stamps cover the boxes which are designed to be too small for stamps to fit inside them), the more uncomfortable it makes me feel. You might as well use blank pages and just line stamps up anyway you like. Maybe I'm suffering from OCD!? Each to their own. It's your collection. Do what you like best. |
