Quote: Nice auction cover but terrible locations and font selections for Angora and Anatolia! Page completed. 1901 Steiner Page 7 Page CV : $206 / $97 The high values, sitting there with nice part Postmarks, in the lower right quadrant, fills me with scepticism, albeit, the used stamps are of less value than mint. |

Image of an old fella, before it dies. Warrants an image for the Postmark : HARPOUT (Rocky Castle) The name Kharput is of Armenian origin, it comes from the Armenian Kharberd or Karberd which contains the word berd meaning castle. Harput was an ancient Urartu fortress town which Armenians established as their capital city in the 10th century, until taken by the Ottomans in 1515. Harput 4 years after the stamp was cancelled (wiki) Sc#99 1892 5pi $5-$15 |

Sc#40 1875 1 Piastre Yellow. Detail. The 1 Piastre came with overprints from 3 printing plates. I have seen this issue on offer for $80 unused, and described as "Plate B" Here is mine, similar, but I don't think it is "Plate B" The "V" character does not lean to the right, according to the Gibbons image, yet the period (dot) after, is quite pronounced? Any experts care to appraise? Plate B or Plate C ? Unknown Postmark. |

I see the new Dutch lot is already being processed! Keep it going - this is endlessly instructive. |

Quote: I see the new Dutch lot is already being processed! Thank you. There's no hiding anything from you Geoff I include the Gibbons (1965 Part ll) image, for study, On closer inspection, the script looks entirely different in the value description. I'd wager, it is PLATE C. Unfortunately, the value of the stamp prevents me having multiple copies for study. |

I believe the 1 piastre stamp is plate B.
I have a similar copy.
It looks as though the SG illustration for plate B has been rotated slightly to the right.
The first (top) letter of the group on the left side in plate C is much smaller than here.

Top marks, Nigel. Great stuff. (A Pmk ID as well!) Plate B it is then. Quote: It looks as though the SG illustration for plate B has been rotated slightly to the right. How observant. For the record, the full SG description The top of the "y" on left hand side look similar in this. |

Dangerous stamp up for auction this morning: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Turkey-1916...82427126017? br / A closeup of the relevant area: This stamp is B26. It is being advertised as a B24, and someone bid $25 on it. If you look closely, you'll see the blue 'discount' overprint in the middle of the stamp. That makes it B26. B24 - which is not listed in Isfila - and which I've never seen - does not likely exist in my mind. Scott has it with a used value in italics, and no mint value - which means they question it as well... |
