Turkey Postage Dues Identification is a challenging area. For the record, a handsome multiple, identified as Scott #J31 Courtesy of Hipstamp Auction sales. |

Ok, here we go: This one was in one of several envelopes full of Turkey that I have been attempting to organize and identify. I have it as Sc #21, which appears to have a decent CV, which could mean 1 of 3 things 1) I have identified it correctly, and YAY for me! 2)I have mis-identified it and it's actually a cheap stamp, or 3)It's a forgery of the more expensive stamps and shows I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing yet. |

Caveat : I am just a student of Turkey, as you are. Nice try. It is Sc# 39 CV $4 Looks genuine with a genuine Pmk. These are Dulos Issues (Duloz) The trick with these, is to become familiar with the TOP script design The script at both sides and top = Ottoman Empire Post The script at the bottom is the Value of the stamp. Here are the TOP Script designs of the differing sets. Match these with the Scott catalogue, and you are on your way It took me a long time to familiarise, and I still have to check. (Yours is style 6, 1874-1875) 20 paras Green in the middle. |

Correction made.
That chart will help me out a lot. Now I will go back and re-check the others for mis-identifications.
Greatly appreciated, thanks!

Absolutely. It came in a glassine with about 20 or so regular #1's, all MNH. I accidentally saw it while sifting through them trying to pick out the nicest #1 as my keeper.

Rod, I found these in the "collection/hoard" I am sorting through and was wondering what your thoughts on authenticity were. The first one and last one, I believe, are suppose to be the same stamp, but the first one looks "clumsy" to me. I know there are some references on some of the pages in this thread, but I thought I'd share anyway. |

OK, perusing some of the pages in this thread where these are shown, and show the "secret marks", I am guessing that my first stamp is fake, 2nd stamp is genuine, 3rd is fake and 4th genuine....I think. |

Nice "hoard" 1850 I do not get enough of these to be any sort of authority, hopefully Michael will drop by, and offer his opinion. Nice generous scan, well done, I'll download and spend some time going over them. The first, I would suggest is a definite forgery, the value "5" is terrible, I could have done a better job. I'll be back. |

Phew! That was hard work. Opinion: Forgery, Genuine, Forgery, Forgery.
1. The value script is incorrect. 2. The 1 gurush (violet) I am worried about the top LEFT hand frame, out of square. 3. All forgeries show separated long strokes of the Tughra to the right, as far as I am aware they go fainter and tend to join. 4. The left hand 5 gurush, missing dots in the corner squares.
Caveat: I am only a student, and have very little to go on, I have no established images of genuine issues. They are quite a challenge. Certainly keep them for study resource.

Rod, thanks for looking at those. I've got a huge learning curve HEAD of me. I will identify these for now.
I also noticed that funky frame line in the upper left of that violet stamp and thought it was suspicious.
You may only be a "student", but I would say more like a "student teacher".. |

Postage Dues : ID (Still having problems) 1869 Issues. Scott has "Yellow Brown Border"....Steiner only lists 2 sets ...Red-Brown border and Black-Brown border. Noted : Overprints do vary in shape and form. There must have been differing letterpress formes. My guesses....... Red-Brown Border Black-Brown border. |

Hi Rod,
I suspect that the salmon colour has faded as there is still some colour around TURKIYE.
There are no missing colours for this set in SG or Michel.
