Woot! There went my stamp budget for the week or two. I got a nice Canada #7 used with light cancel. Will fill the hole in one of the tough spots in my album. I have been watching it on auction for a week, drooling...

That is one pretty stamp! What do the 8d.stg and the 10cy stand for?

No idea what they stand for.
I think I got a good deal on it. At least that is what I keep telling myself. Over and over. lol. I hope it is not buyer's remorse.

8 d. stg. (sterling) is British currency while the 10 cy refers to the Canadian equivalent. Cy is Canadian currency, pre decimal.
Beautiful stamp by the way. Wish I had one! |

stg. was the value expressed in British currency (the pound sterling) and cy. was the value expressed in Canadian currency. The Canadian currency was worth less than sterling so the stamp cost more if purchased with currency. |

I also won the bid on this #45 Mint OG, hinged. Not good centering but has high catalog value. Nice color. I can overlook centering to get mint sometimes. |

Here is a picture of both sides of the #7 stamp. No faults that I can see. Too bad the left side was not cut better. I am trying to get this one for my avatar. : |

Despite the cut, it is a very nice stamp, a sharp impression and lightly cancelled. |

One thing I have learned in my stamp collecting years.... When collecting on a budget, you have to give up something on expensive stamps. Either centering, hinge marks, thins, mint/used, cancel or damaged perfs. Perfection is expensive. These things also determine value, even tough the books do not show it as such. So I try to mainly avoid faults as a result of collector damage. IE rips, tears, folds, and such. Thins is a boderline issue. If it is an expensive stamp, I can live with a hinge or a thin if it means getting mint over used. Centering is not as much of an issue to me because most of my interest is in pre 1940 stamps which centering is ususally never very good anyway. But I do not like heavy cancels. If I have to settle for a used stamp, it must have a light cancel. I want to be able to see the stamp and it's details.

If you look at the front, the lines match the coat wavy lines so unlikely a stitch watermark, in my humble opinion

When it arrives, I will look for a watermark. Meanwhile, I purchased 3 nice unused queens (42,43,43i). |

I picked up a King George V set today on ebay. I had put a bid on it and meant to check it and forgot. I got it at open bid of $8. Set is MNH. Catalogs at $185. Not too bad. Filling them holes. |
