strange wheel like cancellation.possibly surcharges on these (2) bavaria-germany stamps.both seem to be imperfs? does anybody know?

i do NOT see an imperf 1867 Sc#16 in the Scott Catalog.The Sc#16 shows perfs for this particular Sc#16 in the catalog photo!



correction the bavarian Sc#16 displays perforation in the scott catalog.

These are called wagon wheel cancels, or Mühlradstempel in German. The numbers correspond to the post office applying the cancel.

Some Bavaria specialists collect these postmarks and try to collect all the different numbers. The stamps themselves are easy enough to find, but assembling a complete postmark collection can be quite the challenge.

kool.thanks for the feedack..a different site defines the wagon wheel cancel as a"cogwheel cancel" a common prussian cancellation.

Here is the number page from my old Michel German special catalog ...
The surcharge for each number is in DM - but there shouldn's have changed so much in this collection area. So I think you can take half of it and get the Euros.

There are "Mühlrad" cancellations in red and blue as well by the way!

I think the German name makes more sense, Mühlrad = millwheel, given that many of them like these two have no outside circle.

Prussia had postmarks that consisted of four concentric circles with a number in the centre, "Vierringstempel".
