Quote: Which program can I use to crop the pictures before uploading? https://www.gimp.org/ - Open source, available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, BSD, etc. Feature filled with a big learning curve. But the crop and straighten tools are very simple to use. |

I am going to try it with the software from PostmasterGS. If that doesn't work, my second choice is GIMP. |

PostmasterGS's cropping and straightening tool is fabulous. I use it all the time, especially for straightening. I use IrfanView if I want to crop a portion of a stamp -- for example, to show a plate flaw. For simply reducing the size of an image, as opposed to cropping, IrfanView's "Resize/Resample" feature (found under "Options") is great. |

I've scanned my stamp now twice. First image went great, also straightened with PostmasterGS' program. But with my second scan, I get the following Stampfix error: What am I supposed to do? I looked into the settings, but don't know how it all works. Thanks for helping me out! |

rikdegraaff,
Can you post a copy of the photo you're trying to crop/straighten, as well as your threshold settings? The threshold settings can be found under "Settings", "Threshold Settings". |

Hereby my threshold settings: But with the photo of my stamp, I get an error. File is too big... What can I do to upload my photo? Resize in IrfanView, or upload it to an other host? I am now uploading at UltraIMG.com... Thanks for all the help! |

I resize with IrfanView to get it under the 200 KB limit. You can also use the "Free Image Optimizer" by clicking the link below. (By "below," I mean below the box where you type your post.) |

Thank you for your email address, PostmasterGS. I've sent you an email.
I hope that you/we can fix this, because it is a wonderful piece of software!
Greetings, Rik |

Ah, finally some time to scan a stamp. Here my first "good" result of a scanned stamp. Please let me know if you have some tips/additions. My scan settings were the normal epson settings, only changed to 1200 dpi. Greetings, Rik |

Rik,
Try dialing back the white level/brightness just a bit. You're blowing out the highlights and losing all surface detail. |
