Good Morning Family,

Not sure if anybody else received a message from Stanley Gibbons, but I received one yesterday requesting me to change my password. I wonder if their site was hacked?

I got the same email as well. They claimed they made improvements to their site that required a password reset. I'll leave it to the computer folks on this board to analyze cause and effect.

I am not sure that this is the case with this SG email; but never click on any email link unless you are 100% that the link is legitimate. Ideally, if SG wanted everyone to reset their passwords they would sent an email without any links. The email would simply direct you to the site and then prompt you when you go to log in. The reasoning is simple, it is far more difficult to emulate an entire website then it is to fake an email.

I have no idea why they would try to do this via an email but it is an IT 'no-no' and a mistake that would only be made by someone/company who did not think it through. If it were me I would try to contact them first and try to verify that this is what they intended.

Well I set my password before your cautionary advice, Don. Do you think I may have made a mistake?

Hi Jack,
I would follow up with them and verify just to be safe.

It sounds dubious to me. What company would approve an IT change which has the effect of disabling its customers' accounts?

Did they ask you to enter your "existing" password (even though it's apparently obsolete)? If so it could be phishing for passwords.

Hi all,

Claudia from Stanley Gibbons - Marketing department here.
I wanted to reach out to let you know that we are active 'listeners' of everything you say. Our developments have taken a focus on what it is that our customers want and need. The closure of Marketplace is a result of that. Another big change was the improvement and change of our backend system which was created for that business proposition and wasn't suited for the world of Stanley Gibbons.

Please rest assured that the email was sent from our IT team as the change implied a major shift towards a different technology that could not consume the technology we had implemented previously. The new technology is more stable and standard for ecommerce, hence much more reliable and allows us to release new features quicker and fix issues swiftly.

We also are keen to know what your collecting areas are so we only send you relevant information, that is why we encourage you to select your interests in the Newsletter area on your dashboard.

We really care about our customers and are listening to everything you have to say, so if you do have anything you would like to share with me, please get in touch.
Email should be in my profile.
All rants welcome :)
