Don't underestimate Greenland postmarks - there's some depth to this topic.

There are WAY more than 41 postmarks. Now that number seems reasonable for current POST Gronland offices, but there are many, many more historic postmarks than that.
Also consider that most cities have gone by the Danish name , some had spelling changes, then evolved to the Inuit place names, so even within one city there can be three different city names. Also realize there are 9 distinct postmark hammer types (with minor variations) , and count those special one-day cache and FDC cancels , so the postmark possibilities multiply quickly.
Now the fun begins when seeking one of the many Greenland post offices that are now closed - those are the postmarks that are quite a challenge to locate.

To be fair - we should also mention there are several American base postmarks ( like Thule/Pituffik , Tuto, Century, Fistclench, Neem, Summit Camp ) , a few Danish operated stations like Zackenberg and Sermilik (near Tasiilaq) and some of the seasonal stations (like Nord) have postmark hammers.

Please ask if you have any questions, we're here to learn and share information.

Thanks drewf for all the great information. I will certainly not hesitate to ask questions as you seem to be very knowledgeable on the subject of Greenlandic postmarks.

I believe "PR." means "via."

although an old post, some might still come across this again.

PR. is short for "per" it's a minor city that didn't have their own postoffice, they would have a house that handled local mail.

in this case.. Claushavn is a very small town/settlement, it's main city is Jacobshavn.
