John, not sure what you are asking. A 200dpi image would have better results on a grouping.
If you are asking regarding usage, then that is up to the individual, and his/her integrity. I use mint purchased stamps for all my mail, however If I receive marker monkey stamps, I use non gum self stick to that value.
The quality of the $1 Jetties image is so bad compared to the other stamps.
What have I missed out on concerning image posting on our forum. Plus what is it with the new Auspost issues not scanning as they use too?
Was of the opinion that 600dpi was standard and that 200dpi was not in the race for image quality.
Nothing wrong with mint no gum but soon as they try to remove the cancellation then sell them as mint no gum it is not good. The stamps must still have faded cancels showing clearly.

This is re the scanning issues you have mentioned.
I use an Epson scanner (Perfection V550) as do you. Have you noticed that the colour of images changes with changes of resolution? The following shows the effects at 6400, 1200 and 200 dpi going from left to right. The 6400 dpi redition is by far the closest to the subject.

Frank, no, not noticed, but I do now. 6400 Yikes. I could not handle that on a time basis. I only have an Epson V200, and that labours (Win7) on anything above 600dpi. (It buffers)
I am quite comfortable with results of 600dpi for a stamp, and 200dpi for an Album Page.
Re 'wow, 6400 dpi' and scanning complete platen:I have just started experimenting with this. Up to now, I have generally used 1200dpi. I like to scan at high resolution as you never know what your image could be used for later. I have found, however, that if you resample (Corelese for resizing) to a lower resolution, the image quality can be worse than if you scanned at the lower resolution initially. I get round this by bringing up the image on the screen at an appropriate size and screen grabbing the required portion of the image. I am sutprised that you are losing image quality when cropping out a portion of a full platen image. Perhaps goin the screen grabbing. route will help out here.
Last night was our 1st fire for this season and the paper used to light this fire was made up of all the marker monkey's efforts I have found over our summer season. Best use I have found for these Australian stamps so far.
