Thanks Diane I hope to be more active.

I buy mine at a coin and stamp store in the Pittsburgh Area. At one time they were loaded with a lot of stamps from 1880 - 1920 and I found many great condition Bank Notes, Columbians, Washington & Franklins and a lot more. Some of the gems that I found over severall several pounds of these were the #134 Bank Note, #114, #219d, #220a & #220c the capped Washington's, the broken hat Columbian, #285 - #291 Trans Mississippi, and much more.

I was paying around $28 a pound on paper. At first it was like a found a gold mine and I have thousands of Washington & Franklins that to this day I am still sorting.

However even this had to come to an end, the few pounds that I have bought over the past year have only yielded a few stamps older than the 1940's with most being in the range of 1950 - 1960.

The place is call The Treasure Hut located in Mt Lebanon.

Hello

I´m a Machin nut, so I love the GB definitives kiloware. Do not have problems about fault/damage stamps, I only think about how meny Machins I will find.

More or less in a kiloware (1lb) can you find 2000 stamps, half damage, so 1000 then soaked and can you find 500+ very fine used.

Do you spend US$8-US$20 for 500+ FU stamps, it is a deal.

The big question is, where do you buy your kiloware? Not many kiloware sellers today, and most difficult find one in your kind of collection.

Answer go for the Machins or better, please don´t go for the Machins, they are only for me

novato!

Sounds like you enjoy your kiloware.
It is also how I like to collect.
I am surprised that kiloware is hard to find.
But I am no expert on this subject.
It will not be long for your 50 posts.
More things can be opened up for you then.

again. KGV!

Hello

Yes, I really enjoy the kiloware, always try to find a "treasure" in bunch of stamps, maybe not a very expensive catalogue stamp, but for you always a most valuable stamp in your collection.

Maybe I mess my words, easy to find, many people sell kiloware, but now is difficult to me find a good kiloware. Better to say is more expensive to me.

For example:

a normal kiloware (500g) cost US$7-US$15.
a better kiloware (500g) US$40-US$60

or maybe the high cost is postage&handling to Ecuador

PS.50 posts, hehehe, we need a game.

Hello! novato

Postage always seems to be the issue with stamping.
It just costs so much.
Stamp collectors should get special discounts on postage!
Your writing is easy to understand.

Do many people collect stamps in your country?
Do you go to a stamp club?
How many stamp issues does your country have each year?

Just interested! John

Hello

Well, I answer your question on my ´Introduce Myself Here´ post,
https://goscf.com/t/10622
If not we are out of topic.

Now, I had to considered about the self adhesive stamps are fault in all my kiloware, that is because I collect used stamps, and try to soak the stamp is a priority for me.
All the self adhesive Machins go to a envelope and maybe they are forgotten there, hard to said that stamps look a "album page/stock book"

Thank you

Novato,

When you get to 50 posts, I'll send you a packet of Machins !
On paper, off paper and S/A.

Best to leave the Self-Adhesives on paper for now until you are sure how to remove them. I will find the threads here that may help you do that.

In the meantime, here is one Machin you WON'T find in Kiloware !

Now get posting !

Londonbus1.

I just brought a 10,000+ WW kiloware and put it aside until I have time to sort it out,I know it will be weeks and weeks of stamping but with the silly season already here I'll have to wait until next march,by then I hope to have plenty of time and room which is more important as the grandchildren have commandeered my stamp table.

Oh P.S. to the forum Fernando

Hello

thank you.

well, I always like to find a £5 light blue, with out faults. Difficult find a £2 slate blue, with out the "£" or other "errors".

Yes, now, do not try to soak the Machins with security or the other adhesive.

When I buy a commemorative kiloware or Christmas kiloware obvious for me find more fault than Machins. One time I bought a Canada/USA definitive kiloware, same than Machins very few faults.

Maybe I´m lucky with this kiloware. maybe not.

Hi Fernando

Machins are very beautiful - true classic design (though after seeing them on letters every day for over 40 years, they do sometimes get monotonous . . .). Wonderful choice of colours across the years.

My local UK stamp dealer sells 5 kg bags of machin kiloware for about £10 - with commems and sometimes higher value machins taken out. I've checked surface mail small packet postal rates - £7 for 1 kg, £13 for 2 Kg, £30 for 5 Kg (max), £4.25 more for signed for delivery with compensation up to £41. So it seems a very expensive buy.

Hello

OK, I want to live on UK!

My stamp dealer when I ask about Machins, said "Machi-What?!"

That is the range of cost when I buy my kiloware to much expensive, but my only way to get enough stamps.

So they take out the faults too?

Hi Fernando

No they don't touch the faults alas. And they leave in the uncancelled stamps. Which I hate, as they are neither one thing or another. Thou some people soak them and sell the stamps as unused on ebay. Naughty and thieving IMHO. Which is why the new UK common machins have those flaps that make them impossible to soak. GRR.

Hello

I think look for not canceled stamps on the kiloware are normal practice, if not how they offer post free to UK. but that is other topic.

When do you talk about "flaps" are you talking about the Security Machins.

Now I collect them with paper, I damage many of this trying to soak. But I found many with no faults, then I think now we have a better kiloware
