"#8237;$5, Warrior, Longmen Grotto" I see the reference, but no design or number—maybe a case of catalog blindness… Any comments welcomed. Thanks!

Isn't yours just 2190, as described in the list above the pricing?

@GeoffHa from my experience with the Scott online catalog so far, I've seen each design have it's own design-ID which is then associated with the reference-ID. Not having a separate ID for each design seems inconsistent with the rest of the catalog's layout. Maybe I'm missing something from the instructions in the beginning… better go back and read them to see for sure. Thanks!

Not so.
Scott often gives a reference to a stamp design that remains basically the same, and yet the vignette and value tablet differs.
This is esp used late when stamps are in long sets.

This brevity is required to keep the Catalogue / listings in a manageable format.

What Rod says is correct -- if you illustrated every single stamp that had a different design (instead of just one sample from each set of same design type), the Scott worldwide catalogs would be at least twice as thick and more expensive. Some other worldwide catalog producers do the same thing.

If you want every single stamp illustrated, you will often have to go to the specialty catalogs or the single-country catalogs.

Personally, when I was a beginner in a new unfamiliar country/area, having every single stamp illustrated would have been really helpful -- but I probably could not have afforded the worldwide catalogs in that case. After you get to the intermediate/advanced stage, having comprehensive stamp illustrations is not as important and you appreciate the cost savings. My opinion. It's a give and take.
