Gentlemen, this stamp was in an album as the Jamaica 1883-97 fourpence SG 27 red-orange, but when I examined it I wonder if that is correct. Although I can only see one CA and no evidence of a crown, the CA is displaced as thought it were a multiple. Nevertheless the colour seems to suggest red orange does it not? The colour overrun on the back is odd.
I would be grateful for advice as to the correct identification.

Many thanks, Michael

From the back view, I think I see the CA at upper right. Is that what you see? Then, the top half or so of the crown is below it, with the top point of the crown at about the 5th full perf hole from the bottom. Watermark fluid would help you here. Nothing major here, there are many watermark shifts to varying degrees.

This stamp shouldn't have yellow paper; it's not a color run from this stamp's ink. In fact, I started to look for my Bermuda stamps first based on the colors. I can't quite tell what's going on with the back -- it looks like bits of white tissue are adhering. I suspect the yellow transferred from soaking with orange-yellow envelope paper from other stamps.

With the yellow, it's hard to say which shade it is. The red browns can be in a pretty bright shade with some orange to them.

EDIT: see second post below -- the answer.

Mine I have as Brown Orange, for comparison.

Apologies to all, maybe I AM seeing imaginary watermarks. This has to be the 1911 4d red on yellow, therefore MCA wmk. From the face view, I (perhaps again wrongly) see a crown the right size for this behind Queen Victoria's neck and a corresponding something at lower left. It doesn't match what I think I see on the back. Watermark fluid will give the answer.

Michael,
what Gibbons catalogue are you using please?
My 1993 catalogue does not tally with your reference,
I am wondering if SG has re structured Jamaica listings.

Agreeing with HB's response, it would be SG#50 3rd Oct 1911
4d red/yellow.
