Dear Stamp Community Family

Again I have found some stamps I can not identify:

The first one is probably a charity stamp with a picture of Marie Sklodowska Curie (better known as Marie Curie, the famous physicist/chemist). I am interested to know which organisation issued this stamp. I have seen similar ones with 1 zl but no further information. When were they issued?

The second one is a polnish winter relief charity stamp (Pomoc Zimowa = Winter help). Due to the postmark it was issued sometimes after WWII. But I coudn't find any information about it (Organisation/year of issue).

The third one is a stamp from Allied Military occupation of Germany (AM Post) with a polish overprint. I have seen a lot of polish overprints on German Reich stamps but never before on a AM Post-stamp. Is it just a phantasy or a gimmick? Or has it a deeper meaning?
Is it possibly related to the Polish occupation zone in Germany? The Polish occupation zone was a special area of the British occupation zone in Germany near the Dutch border.

As always: I am looking forward to hear from you. There is such a lot of knowledge out there. I hope as well that there is also knowledge about these three stamps.

Best regards from Switzerland

André

Hi Zuerich4: It looks like the 40 pfennig was issued in ''non occupied sectors'' ?

Yes, the first two are post-war charity labels, there were a fair number of them in the years just after WWII as Poland tried to rebuild itself. Should be worth a couple of bucks apiece.

The Nowy Krakow (New Krakow) overprint comes from the Menden Displacement camp in N. Rhine-Westphalia (British zone) made up of mostly Poles. 250 sets of 2 Hitler heads plus 13 AM stamps were overprinted in about Sept 1945 as souvenirs, there was also a commemorative cancel.

I don't believe any were used for postage although some may have been cancelled by favour. They are listed in the major Polish catalogue of 1960 "Polskie Znaki Pocztowe". The Polish Fischer catalogue used to mention them but doesn't have them in the latest edition.

Interesting article on Menden here -

Dear YeaPolska

Thanks for your hint. I did not come to the idea, that it could be from a DP camp.

I am still searching for Information about the two charity stamps. I have found the second one with similar issues on the Witt Collection Website. But without further Information. Trying to find out the City where the stamp was cancelled I was surprised to find another polnish charity stamp in the Internet with a more readable cancellation:

it seems that it was cancelled in New York, N.Y. (The red one in 1927, mine in 1946). Strange, isn't it?

Best regards from Switzerland

André

The red one is a children's charity label (Polska Dziecom), the bottom lines reading "best wishes for the new year".

The cancels are backstamps applied at New York on registered mail which means that the charity labels were affixed to the back of the envelope.

Here's a cover from Lowicz dated 13 Feb. 1947 addressed to Chicago. On the reverse is a New York backstamp dated March 25 1947, plus two Chicago backstamps dated March 26/27 1947.
