I'm not usually a flyspecker... not even close... but an inking anomaly
such as the lower end of the center line was quite eye catching...

Edit : Yes, I'm aware of the scrape on the RH stamp...

Opinions please...

Hi, would make a very good spacefiller! But the damage only affects one stamp. Otherwise just little bit extra ink at bottom. Notice how one entry is lower than the other one. This happens, not a big deal.

Still nice.

Disi, I like your pair. The inkblot on the bottom is very interesting, and I have no idea what could have caused it.

I go out of my way to collect stamps that are different such as these. They are always on my target list. I found there are a lot of collectors that do the same.

disi, I have also been very interested in the 496 line pairs, pairs and the 496a variety. I purchased over twenty pairs. Many that I bought also have this heavy inking in the center.

This is one example.

This example I submitted to the PF as a "Scar on Washington's Neck" variety.

This was stated on the cert.

"JOINT LINE PAIR, RIGHT STAMP SCAR ON NECK.
AND WE ARE OF THE OPINION THAT
IT IS A GENUINE SCOTT 496, BUT DECLINE OPINION WITH RESPECT TO THE ORIGIN OF THE MARK ON WASHINGTON'S NECK, AND ATTRIBUTION AS A "SCAR", THE JOINT LINE PAIR WITH THE LEFT STAMP PREVIOUSLY HINGED ALONG THE PERFORATIONS AT LEFT, THE RIGHT STAMP NEVER HINGED. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *"

Sometimes the misalignment is more dramatic... as is the case with
this pair of 455's...
