Hello,

beside the very confusing colors of this 3 Cents stamp, I also found the paper information "very thin paper" in Scott for some stamps.

- what is this paper, so why and how was it made that different? (was it for example only a certain printer?)
- why is it only known for stamps with grill, so not for the issue without grill and the reissues?

It is likely that thin paper was tried to improve grill impressions. It is believed that left over paper from the 1868 grills was used up by early printings of grilled bank note stamps. The intervening 1869 issue required a different paper size.

Thank you. Yes, this would be a reason.

So was I right that this thin paper was not used in the bank note stamps without grills (before the bank note grill issues and in the bank note reissues) ?
