Okay this stamp isn't what I bought it as(68a). I was curious if anyone out there is skilled at plating this issue.

As you can see the stamp has guide dots & scribe lines at left. Because of the shift to the right & guide dots; my guess would be a position like 10L, 20L, 10R, 20R... Honestly no clue though, I could be completely wrong.
(Still waiting on stamp, so this scan is the best I can do for now)

Well, jmt, since you bought that one as a 68a, congrats on the 62B......

Has anyone ever acquired enough of the August issues to start or complete the plating?

Ray

Ray beat me to it! That's not a 68a, That's a 62B! When I looked at the pic I knew it from those layout lines.

That is quite the find you have there, well done indeed. That line on the left was scribed into the plate to guide the layout of the impressions from the transfer roll. A straddle pane center line is much further over. There is a really nice straddle pane 68 in the current Siegel sale...

FWIW, the reason we're excited is that the Type 1 (62b) is a scarce stamp and one that catalogs about 20x what a 68 does.

Ray,

Nobody has tried to plate the 62b I don't think. None of the 1861s have been plated yet. My father attempted the 68s but felt that it was impossible as too many duplicate entries existed.

I have been working on plating the 24c but it too appears to be impossible to fully plate.

billw2 - That's good information. I had not heard of any significant plating efforts for that issue of stamps, but I'm gratified that at least people have tried. I kind of figured that was the case. I have toyed with the idea at times, of trying both the 10c and/or 2c stamp. I guess I'll continue to put that idea off

Thanks everyone for the great input; much appreciated! I just thought I'd ask if anyone had worked on Plating this issue. A decent find for under $70!
