of course now that the one stamp in Siegel auction I was intrigued with is off the auction block (7R1L Scott 23), I decided to look at some of the other 1c Franklins that are just perfectly centered up for Auction this month. They are beautiful.
So I decided to look at Lot 23... 1c Blue Scott 22, type IIIa from
plate 4. Graded 95J. Wow
No exact plate position listed, just "Plate 4"... my god, it has 3 certificates!! Plate 4 ain't that tough! Both teams of experts at PF or PSE can't plate the thing???????? I thought to myself... I'll match this baby up. fun stuff. I'm just as good as they are (sarcasm)
So to confirm that such a huge margined jumbo-stamp was really a IIIa from plate 4, I pulled out the Neinken bible. Opened book up to plate 4, and then went nuts again trying to match the relief. The answer came to me after a short while. Never rely on the description of others. This stamp sold in 2012 ex Kirke from plate 4. I believe it is a IIIa and a beauty, but will let others comment on description/plating by Siegel. Just a fun exercise here as I don't think there is any difference value wise
